What problem did we solve?
The previous barcode-based borrowing system required each book to be registered individually with a scanner. Each scan had to be performed separately. In addition, the security solution (anti-theft elements) had to be installed and activated or deactivated separately.
The ability to borrow depended on the library’s opening hours – borrowing was not possible when the library was closed.
What was done to solve it?
An RFID- and IDsys standardized software–based borrowing system with a self-service station. In addition, a machine vision–based visitor count monitoring system.
How does the solution work?
Estonian Academy of Security Sciences replaced its barcode-based borrowing system with an RFID solution that combines borrowing and security into a single system. In addition, a machine vision–based library visitor count monitoring solution was implemented.
How does it improve efficiency?
Using the self-service kiosk reduces workload and makes the borrowing process easier, as readers can operate it independently.
Visitor counting is a very useful addition that provides an accurate overview of library attendance.
The security solution is convenient, as it provides information about books that left the library without being borrowed.
